What is an offset pivot?

The pivot offset refers to the location of the pivot as a percentage of the pad arc length on a thrust or journal tilt pad. The distance is measured from the leading edge of the pad. A center pivot is at 50% of the pad arc length. A typical "offset pivot" might be at 60%.

Pivot offset has a significant effect on the formatoin of the film and can affect bearing temperatures, power loss and, on journal bearings, dynamic performance.
