Fixed profile bearings are the most time-tested type of hydrodynamic bearings. Commonly comprised of steel with bearing surfaces of tin based babbitt, their simplicity of design and long track record of performance make them an excellent choice for low to medium speed applications. Multi-lobe bore versions are also offered for high speed uses. Fixed profile bearings are manufactured in both journal and thrust configurations, with options including combination bearings with thrust faces on each end of journal bearing, hydrostatic jacking for use at start up and run down, and machining for instrumentation. Bearing-grade bronze, engineered plastic and Al/Sn lining options are also available.
