Leading Technology

Technology leadership is at the forefront of every Waukesha magnetic bearing system. With the industry’s most sophisticated software, Waukesha provides remote diagnostics and adjustment, advanced dynamic control algorithms, and enhanced investment protection using ‘intelligent’ trip technology.

Waukesha Magnetic Bearings challenges the traditional method of installing and commissioning magnetic bearing systems that relies heavily on costly and intrusive on-site support. Instead, we’ve used our extensive knowledge of magnetic bearing technology to develop a system that accommodates remote commissioning, diagnostics and machine troubleshooting. This significantly reduces the need for on-site maintenance, increases machine reliability and availability, and decreases the total cost of ownership of magnetic bearing systems.

Using advanced control systems and sensor technology, unique auxiliary bearings and specialized ‘canned’ magnetic bearing designs, Waukesha Magnetic Bearings’ systems are optimized to meet the most stringent application requirements.

Waukesha Magnetic Bearings have achieved availability of 99.9% without special redundancy provisions, making them the standard for mission critical applications.

Research and Development

To ensure high reliability and availability, our active magnetic bearing (AMB) and auxiliary bearing designs, as well as our technological advances in control systems and electronics, are thoroughly tested and validated.

Waukesha Magnetic Bearings has several test rigs to simulate the environments in which the magnetic bearing systems will be installed. Our Red Rig in Worthing, U.K., is the premier magnetic bearing test stand in the world. The rig has a 1.5 ton flexible rotor levitated by AMBs; it runs up to 8,000 rpm and can reproduce critical aspects a system will experience in high-speed, high-power turbomachinery.
