Thrust (Axial) Bearings

From fixed profile designs for lightly loaded applications to advanced tilt pad solutions for more demanding, high-load, high-speed applications, Waukesha Bearings offers a wide range of thrust bearings to provide an optimized solution no matter the application. Combination thrust/journal bearing designs are also available for applications with limited axial space.

Waukesha Bearings tilt pad thrust bearings are specially engineered for reduced power loss, oil flow and pad temperatures for the most reliable and efficient machine performance.

Tilt pad designs may be non-equalizing or self-equalizing with flooded or ‘Directed’ lubrication to support the unique requirements of turbomachinery. Patented design features allow for optimized performance in a variety of applications and address industry-wide challenges like axial vibration.

Unrivaled Choice and Flexibility.

Features and Benefits

Engineers at Waukesha Bearings apply a variety of specialized design features to create a custom bearing solution that is optimized for superior performance.

  • ‘Directed Lubrication’ – allows for increased load capacity, significantly reduced power losses (often over 50% at higher speeds), and reduced bearing surface temperatures and oil flow.
  • Pivot Types/Offsets – allow for increased capacity (loading) of the thrust bearing at higher speeds. Advanced designs with high pivot stiffness address unique application issues such as dynamic loading.
  • Alternative Pad Backing/Surface Materials – accommodates higher temperatures and dissipates heat more effectively…increasing load carrying capacity.
  • Advanced Materials – allow for operation at significantly higher temperatures and thinner films than babbitt.
  • Instrumentation Options – supply critical measurements that may indicate machine malfunction (include temperature sensors, proximity probes and load cell systems).
  • Hydrostatic Jacking – allows operation with heavy loads at low speeds, inceasing load-carrying capacity at start-up.
  • Axial Vibration Suppression Technology – patented technology designed specifically to suppress axial vibration in turbomachinery without sacrificing performance.
